“There’s a southern vibe ingrained throughout the new album, and it’s especially present on this song. ‘To Fly On Broken Wings’ is a tribute to all the folks who taught me some of the most valuable lessons I ever learned, while I was cutting my teeth in Arkansas. A lot of bands from the south were profoundly inspirational to me, and on this song, I wanted to pay respect to Deadbird in particular, hence the title. Musically, I approached this track with two things in mind: make it really heavy, and use a 3/4 time signature. Lyrically, the song is about refusing to give up.”
