Vocalist Ryan Wilmot comments:
“‘Uncrowned’ was probably the most difficult content-wise to write for me. At the time of recording, I was at my absolute lowest I’ve ever felt. I couldn’t get a hold of people back home and let myself get consumed by a panic state. I almost completely lost my ability to talk from being sick going into recording the last few songs. Each take I did ended with a sharp pounding headache. However, I forced myself to take all that in and push forward. The song is a more mature continued thought from our previous song, ‘Enemy’. My mother left my family a while back and I’ve been dealing with my fair share of issues since. I still had pent up resentment and needed to get it out. The chorus, however, is me talking myself through the bad times. Like I said earlier, when I recorded this song I was extremely upset and I just made the chorus as a reminder to myself to just breathe. Emotionally, it’s a really mean song but has a positive message underneath it and we think it’ll really resonate with people.”
