In a statement posted to their Facebook upon the track’s premiere, the band said:
“I’m writing you from a hospital waiting room, praying that an older gentleman (who has become family to me) makes it our from his transplant surgery in one piece. As I get older, I’m more mystified by life and wonder if coincidence is all that random. And in this very moment, this song makes more sense than ever.
We’ve had family and friends develop memory disorders – Dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc. and learned to love someone who no longer knew who we were. If you’ve gone through that process, you know the unique sort of pain this can cause. So this is a love song for those folks and their families.
We decided to take a slightly different approach in the writing process – we took some risks – and this is what came out.
Hopefully it can speak to some of y’all. Love you, family.”
