The group comments:
Amore Mio, Wallenstein’s beloved horse, is the main focal point for our record Wallensteins Garage. The fact that the general chose to retrieve the body of Amore Mio after it was killed in the Battle of Lützen is so peculiar that we talked about this again and again. Imagine orchestrating a battle with thousands of casualties and the only thing you cry for is your dead horse. It is only fitting that Wallenstein also decided to make a taxidermy of his companion. We strongly encourage you to visit the city of Cheb in Czech Republic and pay tribute to Amore Mio, which is now exhibited in the museum there.
Musically, ‘Amore Mio’ is quite different to the other songs on the record. We wanted to showcase the graceful movement of galloping or trotting horses, so we went for a bit more shuffle and a bit more major in the main part of the song. Conceptually, the song contrasts Wallenstein’s loving relationship to his horse with the foreshadowing of the things to come.
Interestingly, the main lick, or ‘Amore Mio’s Theme’, is a remnant of our very first jam session that we had during lockdown. At this time, the idea of Wallensteins Garage was not yet born, but our bass player Lucas was hooked on the lick and the odd time signature that he always wanted to bring it back. In the end, we managed to put it into a song that combines the more classic fuzzy sounds, so clearly influenced by the great psychedelic records of the late-‘60s and ‘70s, with the more focused compositional angle needed for a ‘concept album.
