Post-hardcore/alt-rockers Thrice are in the middle of a North American tour in support of their recently release full-length Horizon/West. Joining them for the ride are California rockers Modern Color and Oklahoma indie/post-rock outfit Downward. I headed out to the October 24th show in St. Petersburg, FL to take some pictures and enjoy riffs and good vibes.

Downward opened the show with their brand of rock that spans several flavors including alternative, indie, post-rock, and post-hardcore. The group are out in support of their sophomore album Downward (LP2), which the band surprise released in March.

Next on the bill was Modern Color out of Redondo Beach, California. The group’s latest outing is an Audiotree Live session comprised mostly of material from last year’s There Goes the Dream and 2020’s From the Leaves of Your Garden. The quartet is not unlike Downward, fusing post-hardcore and alt-rocks among other subgenres of the rock spectrum.

Thrice took the stage to a very warm reception from the crowd as they dove into an hour plus career-spanning set. Focused primarily on their twelfth full-length Horizons/West – which is now a month old – the band bounced around most of their discography from tracks dating back to 2003’s The Artist in the Ambulance. The evening was about the music and delivering an energetic performance, as the band didn’t spend too much time chatting with the crowd. They did take a moment to express their gratitude for everyone in attendance and poke fun at themselves for their laconic nature before diving in to more tunes.

The fall tour continues throughout the rest of the month. You can find the remaining dates for the trek and get tickets via Thrice.net/tour.
