Singer Dylan Newhouse reflected on:
“‘HIT THE FLOOR’ was the first song we wrote when we got back to the studio, and it was written two months after I had become freshly sober. I spent a lot of time leading up to the studio self reflecting on all the destruction that drugs and alcohol had caused in my life. I had to spend time with myself without the ability to just numb it and make it go away. I was facing myself for the first time in my entire life. So when we went to write this song I knew that lyrically I wanted to write something triumphant and powerful, yet reflective on the whirlwind that my life had become during the years of active addiction. It was the first time I ever admitted publicly and in my music that I was an addict and something about that felt liberating, because I wasn’t trying to hide my struggles with it anymore. The song is really just a journey of my perspective on who I was then and my headspace while I was navigating that dark period of my life.”
