Band mastermind Derrick Ryan said of the single:
“‘It Was Never a Phase’ reclaims the phrase that defined a generation and gives it a new meaning. It’s not about refusing to grow up — it’s about realizing that some parts of us never leave, no matter how much life changes around us. The song explores the tension between who we thought we’d become and who we still are, turning old wounds into a reminder of how far we’ve survived.”
