“‘black cloud’ was a song Dan and Jesse wrote from scratch in the studio. It felt as if we were writing the song “backwards”, starting with bass, drums, melody, and then adding the guitar last. We just wanted the song’s personality to remain pure and simple, without forcing any ulterior moods or intricacies into it. The result is some of the strongest melodies and lyrics on the record.”
