The Chaos Raids USA 2015 tour only has a handful of stops remaining so if you reside in one of those remaining cities listed above I highly recommend you check it out. Unless of course you don’t fancy black metal or technical death metal because you’re in for an evening of frosty, grim, kvlt riffage courtesy of Norway’s 1349 and American blackened sludge outfit Wolvhammer along with a maelstrom of tech-death debauchery on account of California’s Abysmal Dawn and Kansas’ Origin. Unfortunately, tonight’s show at the Gramercy Theater in New York will be Abysmal Dawn’s final appearance on the trek but it is still most certainly worth attending for the other three outfits.
Every band present was in top form, firing on all cylinders from the moment they hit the stage to the moment the last note was played. Wolvhammer mesmerized with thick guitars and pounding drums that coalesced with vocalist Adam Clemans howls to set the mood. Abysmal Dawn followed with a phenomenal delivery of tight technical death metal that was as precise as it was ferocious in its delivery. Direct support was provided by brutal tech-death masters Origin who dazzled with a stunning performance of their brand of metal that decimated the venue through a relentless deliver of blast beats, dizzying bass and guitar acrobatics, and guttural death growls. Headliners 1349 closed the evening with a set of true Norwegian black metal that is as gritty and cathartic live as it is on record.
It was an evening of chaos that brought together a great package representing modern extreme metal. Coupling veteran acts with relatively newer outfits, this tour has been a force to be reckoned with.
