Caustic Casanova issue video for “Lodestar”; detail new album Glass Enclosed Nerve Center

Stoned psych sludge quartet Caustic Casanova have released a video for their new track “Lodestar”. The video, created by Malachi Cull, can be found below. The song is the first single taken from the Washington D.C. based unit’s upcoming full-length Glass Enclosed Nerve Center. The record has been slated for release on October 7 through Magnetic Eye Records. Bassist/vocalist Francis Beringer reveals of “Lodestar”:

“In 2019, when we asked Jake to join the band, we immediately threw him into writing and recording a 22-minute song within the first month. Before long, we were on a five week summer tour, which was followed by another big fall tour. After half a year on the road, we asked Jake to come up with some riffs in one of our favorite low-tuning, AADGBE, a favourite of Torche, Melvins, and others. Out of those riffs, we created ‘Lodestar’, the first song we built around Jake’s initial ideas. We think it’s one of the heaviest and most naturally Caustic Casanova songs ever written, which made the rest of us even more sure that inviting Jake was the right decision. He has a distinct style, with precise use of wild and over the top effect pedals, tritone chords, juxtapositions of extreme fuzz metal, and flowery, bright guitar work, but the spirit of ‘Lodestar’ is exactly what this band always endeavors to be: adventurous, really heavy, and strange. The rest of us loved adding to this tune, twisting and tangling it to create the final version. Stefanie and I spent six weeks in 2020 camping and traveling in the Dakotas, mostly in North Dakota, and the lyrics are vaguely about that time. I saw ‘Mandan Woman Never Dies’ written on a large rock and knew it would be an amazing lyric. Anyone interested in hidden and little known American history should go and read Encounters at the Heart of the World, a history of the Mandan people of North Dakota by Elizabeth Fenn.”

Glass Enclosed Nerve Center was recorded and engineered by J. Robbins at Magpie Cage. The band and Robbins handled production duties. Mixing was then done by Andrew Schneider at Acre Audio, while mastering was taken care of by Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio. The artwork and layout for the album was created by Scott Partridge. Pre-order are live now and can be found at this link.
