Guitarist Greg Kubacki said of the song:
“‘Blindsides’ is the most unique sounding song on Tiles Whisper Dreams and for me sounds most like the song I’ve been trying to write for the past 25 years: lots of heavy riffs made from unique guitar sounds played over tricky but groovy rhythms punctuated by moments of shoegaze bliss. It’s such a cliche but I really tried to take listeners on a journey with this one, and I can’t wait to see them take the ride when we play it live through a huge festival PA.”
The video was created by Kubacki using the AI generative program Midjourney. He spoke of the clip, saying:
“The idea behind the ‘Blindsides’ video was to create a vibe of montage or fake trailer for a fictitious 80s animated movie where the visuals match what is going on with the music. Some of the inspiration behind it was Akira, Aeon Flux, Studio Ghibli and David Lynch.”
