The idea of a looming darkness trying to take light away from you captured the feelings of what it feels like to struggle with mental health. I kept thinking, ‘How good would it feel to just not hurt all the time?’ And I think that’s where the last line of the song ‘and to feel a heart without the pain is immortal’ encompasses everything.”
