    Encasement announce self-titled debut; new single “Fragmentation” streaming

    Encasement will unleash its self-titled debut full-length on September 4th through a joint collaboration between Hypaethral Records and I, Voidhanger Records.

    Encasement is the solo black metal project of James Thompson, formed in 2024 through what began as a simple creative exercise and evolved into something far more personal. The venture found direction with the opening passage of the track “Exodus”, a moment that revealed not only a distinct musical voice, but also an unexpected connection to a collection of poems written years earlier.

    What followed was an intense and instinctive writing process. Songs arrived in bursts and gradually assembled into a record rooted in grief, reflection, and emotional release. While the earliest material emerged spontaneously, the remainder of the album was shaped with greater intention, becoming an attempt to fully and unapologetically express emotions that had gone unspoken for too long.

    Musically, Encasement is grounded in black metal but stretches beyond its traditional boundaries incorporating elements from both death metal and more progressive and experimental sources. Dense, angular, and mournful, the project draws from the intensity of artists such as Liturgy, Deafheaven, Thantifaxath, and Gorguts, while later stages of writing turned toward the orchestral drama of Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Ravel.

    Created almost entirely through instinct rather than formal production knowledge, Encasement embraces raw performances, unconventional production choices, and compositions pushed to the edge of Thompson’s own technical limits. The result is a debut that feels immediate, exposed, and singular.

    In advance of the record’s release, Encasement reveals the first single, closing track “Fragmentation”.

    Thompson comments:

    “This track is the central statement of the project, both musically and lyrically; accepting what is gone, allowing oneself to grieve, reconnecting with the true self, and letting go. It explores the ways grief can show up in unexpected moments, and how its influence seems to be cyclical. How tempting it is to fall into the comfort of romanticizing your past, and how difficult it can be to give yourself the grace to move forward without guilt. I wrote fragmentation as a way to confront and detangle an unhealthy web I’d woven for myself.”

    Encasement was recorded, mixed, and mastered by James Thompson. The record will be release on LP (100 on Blood Red vinyl) through Hypaethral Records and on CD (200, 6-panel digipack) through I, Voidhanger Records.

    Canadian blackened hardcore progenitors Spread The Disease return with their first new full-length in twenty-seven years! Titled The Darkness. The Dread. The Suffering., the eight-track offering will see release on July 10th via Hypaethral Records.

    Emerging from the frigid heart of Southern Ontario in 1997, Spread The Disease (STD) began as a darker, uncompromising side project from members of New Day Rising. Long before “blackened hardcore” became a recognized genre, the band was already forging that collision – fusing the aggression of hardcore with the cold extremity of black metal and the technical precision of death metal.

    Their feral intensity quickly made an impact on the underground. Their 1998 debut full-length, We Bleed From Many Wounds (Eulogy), delivered a bleak and relentless hybrid of hardcore and black metal, earning comparisons to bands such as Integrity, Cryptopsy, and Entombed. A notorious performance at Hellfest in 1999 cemented their reputation, leaving behind a set that attendees still speak of. 

    Years later, We Bleed From Many Wounds was remastered and reissued on limited-edition blood-splatter vinyl through Hypaethral Records, reaffirming its cult status among devotees of extreme music.

    The band’s 1999 follow-up, The Sheer Force Of Inertia, pushed even further into uncharted territory, incorporating electronic textures that hinted at the band’s restless creative instincts. Though their output was brief, Spread The Disease became revered among purists as early trailblazers of a sound that would only gain wider recognition years later.

    Now, decades after their primal beginnings, Spread The Disease returns. Re-emerging at a point in life where the obligations that once eclipsed creativity have begun to fade, the band has reignited the same uncompromising spirit that defined their earliest recordings. The newly forged lineup, featuring Shane Post, formerly of late ‘90s metalcore outfit Bird Of Ill Omen and current member of legendary sludge/doom band Fistula, on vocals, channels that legacy into something darker and more fully realized.

    The Darkness. The Dread. The Suffering. is the product of two years of grim inspiration: a blistering collection of songs that captures the band’s original ferocity while pushing deeper into blackened experimentation. Blending the hallmarks of their past – speed, intensity, and viciousness – with a renewed creative drive, this incarnation of Spread The Disease honors its underground roots while forging forward with sharpened purpose. Decades later, the darkness remains.

    Comments guitarist Dave Buschemeyer:

    “Since [guitarist] Trev [Trevor Dykstra] and I had remained friends after all these years and had both been a part of the short-lived New Day Rising reunion where we recorded a bunch of new songs, the idea was floated around to potentially do a new Spread The Disease recording. As the two main songwriters, we knew that we could revisit the blackened hardcore style material with some fresh vigor. I had been keeping my chops up with that style of music with Die In The Light and Trev had been playing in multiple projects on his own as well.”

    He continues:

    “The songs came together relatively easily. but it took a long time to come to fruition. This is the reality of being older, with families, careers, etc. You put in the time when you can. In the end, we’re stoked on how they turned out and we’re excited to play them live!”

    Adds Post:

    “When Dave approached me about the possibility of singing for Spread The Disease, I jumped at it. I was very familiar with STD from the ‘90s and was excited for the chance to get to write with them and sing on a new record.

    All of these songs are related to the pressure cooker that we are living in these days. Constant strife. Continuous denial of facts. All while leaning on the fallacy of religion just to get through the day and not be afraid. These songs are speaking to the need to stand up, speak out, and care for your fellow man no matter who it is.”

    Of the record’s lead single, “Gods And Politics”, Post elaborates:

    “The song speaks to how religion is destroying lives through hatred, lies, and deception.”

    Madison, Wisconsin-based atmospheric post-black metal outfit Corridoré will release their new full-length, Abandon, on August 22nd via Hypaethral Records.

    Forged in 2016, Corridoré crafts a sound rooted in the weight and atmosphere of post-metal, filtered through the blistering aggression of black metal and the introspective haze of shoegaze. Drawing comparisons to genre-defying acts like Deafheaven, Falls Of Rauros, Nothing, and Inter Arma, the band uses contrast and dynamic tension to powerful effect moving seamlessly between explosive blast beats, towering tremolo riffs, and moments of stark, melodic stillness.

    At the heart of Abandon is a meditation on what it means to let go not only of despair, but of the structures, systems, and personal narratives that perpetuate it. A harrowing and emotionally resonant follow-up to their self-released 2019 debut, Abandon delves deep into themes of isolation, grief, and the fragile resilience of the human spirit. With eight sprawling tracks that balance beauty and brutality, Abandon captures the existential tension of life in a collapsing world refusing to look away but still grasping for something beyond despair. Bassist/vocalist Eric Andraska notes:

    “The songs that make up Abandon were written before and after the pandemic, a period of introspection and change. Like the rest of the world, Corridoré took a bit of a hiatus, but returned with a new focus that led to this album. In the past, I’ve generally written songs from a third-person point of view, but with this album, although the lyrics and themes still aim to be abstract, it’s the most personal I’ve gotten with lyrics. I wanted the record to convey those feelings of isolation, loneliness, and grief ‘abandonment;’ but also to look at it from the perspective of things ‘to abandon’ to break free from that which torment us.”

    Abandon is a sonically expansive record that spans everything from atmospheric post-rock passages to crushing walls of distortion. First single, “(Become) Carrion”, lurches between black metal fury and anthemic post-metal catharsis, questioning whether we are marching toward death or whether we’ve already crossed that threshold. Andraska notes:

    “This was the first song we wrote for this album. The song is about the inevitable march towards death while trying to find a glimmer of light in the darkness of a society that makes less and less sense and is more unforgiving and alienating with each new day. Ultimately, it’s hard not to feel that everything has ‘slipped away, out of view’ and to come to the harrowing realization that maybe we’ve been dead the whole time.”

    Abandon was recorded and mixed by Dustin Sisson at Blast House Studios (Ossuary, Bereft) with additional recording by guitarist/vocalist Russell Emerson Hall, mastered by Carl Saff (Saetia, KEN Mode, Zozobra), and features artwork by Sick Of Realism. The record will be released on CD (ltd. 300), LP (ltd. 100 Graphite vinyl), cassette, and digital formats.

    Funeral doom trio Föhn will release their debut full-length Condescending on August 23rd via Hypaethral Records in North America and These Hands Melt in Europe. The group tracked the effort between January and May of 2023 by Babis Tzanidakis and Föhn guitarist/drummer G. Schoinianakis at Timeless Recording Studios in Greece. Mixing and mastering was tasked to Greg Chandler (Esoteric) at Priory Recording Studios in England. The track listing and cover art have been revealed and can be found below. Pre-orders are also live via Hypaethral Records webstore and Bandcamp in North America. European fans can secure advance copies at These hands Melt’s webstore and Bandcamp.

    A lyric video for Condeescending’s opening number “Bereft” has surfaced online. Listen below. Schoinianakis said of the single:

    “It had already started eating us alive, and we couldn’t wait any longer. It hurt a lot and we had to get it out of us. It’s only then when we talk, after all. We knew it would hurt a lot, and in the end, we hoped we would find redemption. A kind of catharsis.”
